It is the time when our children are almost settled with their regular studies and come in the mood of celebrations after getting relieved from UT- I. August has been another month of learning new concepts with the maximum participation in different activities which not only honed their skills but also gave them a platform to showcase their talents. Universal theme ‘ I am respectful’ proved to be a big support for the young minds with the help of which the value of respecting others could be inculcated well. The students happily narrated their personal experiences during the discussion time in the morning assembly sessions promising to be helpful and thoughtful always. They could understand the value of showing consideration and regard for others. The universal value could be easily related with patriotism as we celebrated the 75th year of Indian Independence with a great pomp and show on a hybrid platform. The proud Suncitizens displayed their love for the country by remembering the priceless sacrifices of our forefathers and by sharing the significance of the remarkable celebration by going live on youtube. The students commenced their morning assemblies everyday with beautiful thoughts and enriching words. They enjoyed reading the NIE and sharing numerous facts and regular updates about Tokyo Olympics. In sync with SDG 14, Life below water, our zealous learners participated well in the Language Performing Arts Week and Math Week which was an exposure to tools like Kahoot, flipgrid etc. MATHEMATICS : LINES AND ANGLES: A prior knowledge of types of Angles, pair of Angles and Adjacent Angles was discussed with the help of Geogebra Software. The Practice exercises from the textbook and Case Study Questions worksheets were done which strengthened their conceptual knowledge. TRIANGLES: The mathematics session began by sharing the previous knowledge of triangles and the meaning of Congruency and its various criteria. INTEGRATION WITH ART: Criteria for congruency of triangles was understood using triangle cut-outs besides some other properties of isosceles triangles. The practice exercises from the textbook and theorems with their proof were done which strengthened their conceptual knowledge. ICT : “The best tool available today for exploring real-life questions of quantity and change is the spreadsheet.” The students learnt Excel Software. After revisiting Newton’s second law and third law of motion, students were able to understand the answers to their queries and concluded that “Momentum of a system of objects is always conserved” – LAW OF CONSERVATION OF LINEAR MOMENTUM. With the new CBSE guidelines regarding the change in the assessment pattern, the children were briefed and empowered to create a question bank for the portion of the chapter relevant to the Desert region and the Coastal Plains. The portions were allocated and the group went into BREAK OUT ROOMS to pull out their set of questions. This collaborative effort was done in a jiffy with excited students carving out questions. Students watched a video on the need and importance of the constitution wherein they shared their views. The path of the Indian constitution-making and the efforts of the constitution-makers were explained with the help of a mind map and class notebook. In Foreign language lessons of French, German and Spanish, Grade VI learners donned the hats of different “Fictional and real-life characters” and talked about them in their style. The enthusiastic students of Grade VII enacted as “Weather Reporters” and Grade VIII students presented an act interviewing their “Favourite Celebrity.” The tech-savvy students of Grade IX presented a fictional “Digital Character” and penned a short script in their respective languages. In Sanskrit lessons, the students chanted “Shlokas” and conducted a “Quiz” in small teams. They incorporated the elements of music and drama into it. The English lesson activities aimed at developing creative, research and presentation skills across grades. Grade VI students made a better understanding of idioms and phrases coined by William Shakespeare followed by the enactment of a scene from his plays on Flipgrid. “Cinquain Poems” were the pick of the day for the VII Graders. A marine life “Press Conference” was organized in Grade VIII through which they raised pertinent issues such as the threat to the oceans. Grade IX students took the role of “News Reporters” and presented a cover story along with a report presentation. The Hindi lessons were adorned with student presentations of “Patriotic Songs” in Grade VI, dance performances as per seasons in Grade VII. The students of grade VIII enacted as “Endangered Species of Oceans” and pleaded for their protection. Creating “News Channels” buzzing with information about different climates was the creative task for the IX graders. The students learnt about voice modulation, body language, recitation and dialogue delivery as per their activities in the Drama lessons. All the activities were in sync with “SDG 14 - Life Under Water” which added value to the students’ learning and awareness, thereby contributing to the larger aim of sustainable goals. INTER-HOUSE MENTAL MATH COMPETITION: Mathematics is a subject that the students should build upon and master throughout their educational experience, for it forms a strong foundation and aids in understanding how the world works and is a critical skill 21st century for learners, thereby allowing them to make important connections between these mathematical concepts that are being taught and the real world in which they live. Keeping this in mind the students from Grades 3 onwards participated in an Inter-House Mental Math competition held this month. The students from the 4 Houses - Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific and Indian participated in a tough competition held on a virtual platform. There were 2 rounds - Selection Round done on MS Form application and the Final Round (fastest finger first) conducted on Kahoot. Amidst nail biting finish, scores tied, the whole competition gave an insight to the students ability to calculate mentally faster. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION : Suncity School 37D celebrated India's 75th Independence Day with unprecedented patriotic fervour. The gamut of celebration started with our Principal Ms.Guneet Ohri hoisting the Tricolour with the national anthem echoing in the campus. The Independence Day Special Assembly was very well coordinated and conducted by our confident and enthusiastic 6th Graders virtually. It was a moment of great pride for the newly elected council members for whom their parents had the honour of pinning their prefect badges. The toppers of last year’s Olympiads, academic scholarship holders and winning houses were also felicitated for their excellent performance in the virtual presence of Maj. Gen. Kulpreet Singh (Retd), the Chief Guest for the occasion. Gen Kulpreet congratulated the students and encouraged them to take on the mantle of leadership seriously. "Ask not what your country can do for you ask what can you do for your country.” is what he quoted to motivate the council members. He also spoke about the his fellow soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our country. He appreciated the Principal’s leadership under whose guidance the school is emerging to be one of the best in Gurgaon. Our talented students paid homage to the martyrs through their impeccable song and dance performances. The event concluded with the Inter-House Patriotic Song competition which was assessed by the eminent judges Mr.Vikul Sharma & Ms.Riya Maity Sinha. The mellifluous performances by the students were highly appreciated by the judges. The Principal, Ms Guneet Ohri, addressed the gathering by congratulating all students, staff and parents for enthusiastically uniting to celebrate and honour the nation despite the current tough and troubling times.
