MATHEMATICSLINES AND ANGLES Prior knowledge of the students about Types of Angles, Pair of Angles and Adjacent Angles was tested with the help of Geogebra Software. With practice, the students understood the concept of Vertically Opposite Angles and Parallel Lines Properties and their applications. The students also practiced the following concepts: * Adjacent Angles and Linear Pair Properties * Parallel Lines and a Transversal Line * Line Parallel to the Same Line * Angle Sum Property of a Triangle INTEGRATION WITH ICT – Geogebra/GSP software was introduced, where Vertically Opposite Angles and Parallel Lines Properties were explained. The students enjoyed working on this software and created their own shapes to find unknown angles. INVESTIGATION: The students also investigated themselves that the sum of all angles of a triangle is 180 degree using Geogebra/GSP software. The Practice exercises from the textbook and Case Study Question worksheets were done which strengthened their conceptual knowledge. TRIANGLES: Mathematics session began by sharing the previous knowledge of Triangles and the meaning of Congruency and its various criteria. An explanation was given on various congruence criteria with proofs. The students also enjoyed understanding of the following concepts: • Criteria for Congruence of Triangles • Some Properties of an Isosceles Triangle • RHS Congruence Criteria INTEGRATION WITH ART – Criteria for congruency of triangles using triangle cut-outs and some other properties of isosceles triangles were proved in the class. The Practice exercises from the textbook and theorems with its proof were done which strengthened conceptual knowledge of the students. SCIENCEPHYSICS Gravitation Using the prior knowledge of the concept of motion, the students were able to understand the physical significance of centripital force and gravitational force. They understood how force of gravitation is dependent on the masses of objects and distances between the two objects. The students were able to list the importance of gravitation in real life. In addition, with the help of the knowledge of motion, the students understood the concept of free fall and calculated the value of acceleration due to gravity for any planet and Earth. The learners understood the difference between mass and weight of an object and how these two vary with the change in location of the object. On the basis of above understanding, the students learned the following: 1. Speed of two objects falling freely is independent of their masses and only depends on the height. 2. Mass is measured in Kg and Weight in Newton 3. Mass is independent of location whereas weight changes with change in location e.g weight of an object is (1/6)th weight of object on earth. Revision: Numericals done from NCERT Examplar. CHEMISTRY The learners conducted experiments to understand the properties of a true solution, suspension and colloidal solution by preparing sugar, soil and starch solutions in their Chemistry lab. They enthusiastically participated in the practical which helped them to relate the concept to real-life examples which in turn proved beneficial in understanding the concepts clearly. They also learnt different types of solutions- saturated, unsaturated and supersaturated by dissolving salt in normal and hot water. Their curiosity to learn about different types of solutions was evident while performing the experiments. In addition to this, they also revised the chapters, Matter In Our Surroundings and Matter Around Us Pure for their upcoming Half-yearly examination. BIOLOGY Topic- Why Do We Fall Ill? The students started the chapter with a debate on an interesting topic- Distinction between Healthy and Disease-free. [English Integration]. The debate brought out the different conditions essential for good health. [SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being] The students learnt how to identify the state of disease by looking at different signs and symptoms. They were also able to classify Diseases as acute or chronic, depending on their duration. The students concluded that vaccination and immunization are best preventive methods. Topic: Improvement in Food Resources The students learnt about the three main practices for improving crop yield viz., crop variety improvement, crop production improvement and crop protection management. [SDG 1: No Poverty] A class discussion was held on how one can bring about improvement in food resources and food security. [English Integration] The students learnt about how Biotic and Abiotic factors affect crop production and they noted the different desirable agronomic characteristics with the help of PowerPoint presentation and concept maps. Chapter Exercises and Question-Answers were discussed to assess the understanding of the students. Recapitulation of chapter concepts was done through Quizizz and Google Forms Assessment [IT Integration]. The class test was also conducted to prepare the students for the Half Yearly Examinations. SOCIAL SCIENCEHISTORY Democracy is the road to Socialism-Karl Marx The chapter Socialism and the Russian Revolution began with a discussion on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The extent of the Russian empire was explained with a map. The students were able to differentiate between Communism, Socialism, and Capitalism. The agents of Social Change in Europe- Liberals, Conservatives and Radicals were discussed. The nature of Russian society was explained by a PowerPoint presentation. The students were able to sensitize to the Russian people and their conditions. The spread of the Russian Revolution and incidents like Bloody Sunday and the February Revolution were discussed. First World War and its impact on Russia were analyzed. Map work on the Central and Allied powers of the First World War was done. Revision for half yearly was conducted. CIVICS Ch.3-Constitutional Design Ch.4-Electoral Politics Preamble of a country is the backbone of the constitution. The importance of preamble was discussed wherein each student was asked to explain the key words of the preamble and the interpretation these words had in their day to day life. The importance of constitution was reinforced through a general discussion. The importance of election in a democracy was discussed through mind map. The whole process of election was explained through a flow chart. The students discussed the Student Council election process held in school and corelated it with the election in the country. The concept was explained in corelation with SDG-10: Reduced Inequalities. GEOGRAPHY Ch.3-Drainage The river drainage system of India was introduced with the help of a PPT and Google Earth. Difference between the Himalayan rivers and peninsular rivers was explained with the help of the Map. The students were asked to locate major rivers and valleys on the google map. The course of a river was explained with real images and the students understood the formation of Ox-bow lake, gorge, valley, delta, etc. in different courses of the river. ECONOMICS Ch.2-People as a Resource "Human resources are like natural resources; they're often buried deep. You have to go looking for them; they're not just lying around on the surface." - Ken Robinson Laiabilty or Resource? The students analysed this and understood how they can become a resource rather than a liability. Investment in the human capital through education, training and medical facilities was explained. Co-relation of economy with Human resource was explained through a case study. The difference between economic activities between men and women was discussed. The students shared their own observation of their families and in the society. Graphs were explained to understand literacy rate disparity among men and women. The government policies were highlighted to make students understand the initiatives to improve the quality of human resource. ICT“The best tool available today for exploring real-life questions of quantity and change is the spreadsheet.” The students, in ICT classes learnt Excel Software. They learnt different features available in Excel like creating spreadsheet, entering data, formatting data, etc. They learnt different functions like sum, Min, Max, Average, If, percentage and cell reference. Integration of / ART/ ICT: The students explored the musical Instruments across the world and created a pixel art using formatting features in spreadsheet(Excel). Half yearly revision was done in class ENGLISHThe difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little “extra.” Each Suncitizen tried to put in that little ‘extra’ during their Mid Term Examinations which began in the month of August 2022. The students commenced their journey of furthering their syllabus with the chapter ‘The Snake and the Mirror’. The introduction of the chapter was done through a story plot creation where the students in groups weaved some fantabulous stories using the given elements such as a) the characters of self, a snake and rats; b) setting of night time with no electricity; c) props such as a room and a mirror. The chapter was then read, explained along with the character analysis, discussion on the elements of the story, the genre of humour, the life circumstance of the protagonist. [Life Skill Integration] The students were then explained the techniques to attempt HOTS and value-based questions. The concept of the poem ‘The Lake Isle of Innisfree’ was initialized via videos of; a) traffic chaos in a city, as against, b) peace and tranquility of the lake and island at Innisfree in Ireland where the poet in real life spent a lot of time as a boy. The students noticed the vast difference between chaos and serenity and related it with their own day to day hectic life. The poet and the poem were then introduced to the students and after a thorough explanation of the contents of the poem, the learners were able to understand the elements of the poem, its rhyme scheme, significance of nature , tone, theme, message and literary devises. Q&A were discussed. The students were eager to read the story titled, ‘My Childhood’ being a biographical excerpt of APJ Abdul Kalam. The students were checked upon their pre-knowledge on biography and auto biography and they eagerly shared their knowledge on the Late President. The discussion was done on his life, friends, religion bias along with the reading and explanation of the chapter and Q&A. The concept closure was done with a group discussion. [SDG 3: Good health and well-being & SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities] The students next learnt about and developed understanding for the terms Ballad and Legend. The poem 'The Legend of Northland' was introduced in the class and the works of the poetess Phoebe Cary discussed. The students read the poem on their own and narrated what they had understood. The educator then read and explained the entire poem and the story narrated within. The morals taught in the story were evaluated and the students actively took part in putting forward their point of view in the class. [Value Education Integration] The students began the next story by discussing the art of storytelling and then relating it to the chapter ‘Iswaran the Storyteller’. The students realized that a captivating story becomes interesting only when the narrator twists and turns the action and the plot to make the narrative full of suspense and surprise yet plausible. The story of Iswaran was read and explained, the Q&A, HOTS done. The class was concluded with a Story Narration/Enactment Activity [Drama Integration] where the students were divided in groups and were asked to change the ending of the story. They were then given a choice to either narrate or enact their creation. The students very enthusiastically conducted the activity with some enthralling performances of both narration and enactment. Finally, the month ended with the revision for the Half Yearly Examination. All the stories and poems in the syllabus were revised through peer teaching. The chapter ‘In the Kingdom of Fools’ was revised via a worksheet. The pattern of the Sample Paper was discussed. Culture & civilisations in lesson 5 and 6 were completed along with text book reading. A new topic of grammar was introduced- Imparfait with supportive documents. Recap of future tense, imperative tense, past tense was done in the class. A recap of message writing- how to invite, how to refuse and how to accept was done. A seperate revision worksheet was solved during the class for Half yearly examinations. SPANISHThe month began with the revision of irregular verbs and answering exercises online. With the help of a Power point presentation, the students revised the verb "Tener" and its multiple uses including "Tner que + infinitive". The class revised the verbs "Gustar" and "Encantar" to express likes and dislikes on any topic.The students attempted a worksheet on interrogatives. The use of "Hay" and the difference with "Estar" was discussed in class and tested with an excercise. The use of "Muy, mucho, muchos, muchas and muchos was discussed and practiced in class. An Adobe Express link on the bibliography of the authors Miguel de Cervantes and Pablo Neruda was shared on MS Teams and discussed in the class. To learn about the culture of Spain, an online quiz was conducted in class. Picture discription using "Hay" and Gerunds was discussed and practiced in class. A class test on numbers upto 100 was conducted during a session. To revise prepositions the students attempted a worksheet. A Spanish short video on a real situation on the topic 'Family' was watched and discussed in class. All the links were shared on Teams. A special folder with extra exercises was made in Teams.The students were motivated to attempt and share them on Teams for a further discussion and better understanding. This was followed by a revision of all the three cases (i.e., nominative, accusative and dative) with definite, indefinite and negative articles and the fourth case "Genetiv" was introduced. The students were further introduced to the grammar topics of “damit and um…zu + infinitiv’’. They solved the unseen comprehension and grammar exercises assigned in the Get Ready Practice book for German. They were further asked to prepare dialogues on the given topic. PHYSICAL EDUCATIONWarm Up exercises Badminton: Scissor kicks, Gripping (forehand & backhand) Basketball: Shooting, Rebound, Offensive and Defensive skills. Football: Heading & throwing, Defense, Offense skills Self-Defence: Neck grab, Hair grab, Punch Gymnastics: Front roll, Back roll, Jump and stand position. Cricket: Orthodox catches, Underarm throw and catch, Wicket keeping, Running between the wickets INDIAN DANCEDance has health benefits from increasing stamina, relieving stress, and body sculpting to name a few. But it's also great for mental and emotional health. Dance brings people together and provides them with a sense of community with people that have the same interests and passion. Students learnt Ganesh Vandana choreography in semi-classical style on 'deva shree ganesha' song.Through the dance they learnt various mudras like -- Pataak, ardh-chandra and expressed emotions through shringar ras and veer ras. WESTERN DANCE"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a centain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Freestyle on a Krishna song embibing the spirit of love and devotion. We used freestyle body movements along with hand gestures and rhythmic foot movements to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of body like plie and releve. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DRAMA AND THEATREWarm up exercises and games. Students enacted various situations identifying the purpose of the character like: Walking in with a purpose! and Where am I? Mirroring Activities where students follow the teacher in various actions & postures were conducted. Body Sculpting - An activity in which students are divided into teams of two where one becomes the sculptor while the other becomes a model and they make things (living/non living) and then their roles are switched. VISUAL ARTSCreative Composition- 75 years of Indian Independence for ABHIVYAKTI 1.0 Exhibition on 15th August- Students were asked to make a composition on 75 years of independence/ their expression on the definition of India. This was done as a group work (a group of 4 students) on half imperial size paper using acrylic/ poster colours. Students learnt the use of space, line, lay outing, balance and colour.
