Jovial January has been a month of happiness all around. It is the time when our students welcomed the new year with new promises and resolutions after the winter break. January has been another month of learning and revising the concepts with the maximum participation in different activities like Intra and Inter-School competitions, which not only honed their skills but also gave them a platform to showcase their talents. The universal theme ‘I am truthful’ proved to be a big support for the young minds with the help of which the value of being truthful and honest could be inculcated well. The students happily narrated their personal experiences during the discussion time in the morning assembly sessions promising to be truthful and dedicated always. The students commenced CT lessons with beautiful thoughts and enriching words. They enjoyed reading the NIE and sharing numerous facts and regular updates about various important events like Republic Day and other competitions. MATHEMATICS: The mathematics session began with the revision of the syllabus for UT-II using different tools like MS Forms, Quizizz, Worksheets and students also participated enthusiastically in the doubt clarification sessions. The practice exercises from different resource textbooks and Case Study Questions worksheets were done which strengthened their conceptual knowledge. IT: The students learnt ‘Master Slide in Libre Office Impress’. It helped them to quickly make changes to every slide in the presentation. It also enables every slide on the presentation to follow a singular theme and look cohesive – perfect for creating a professional presentation. They also revised creating labels in ‘Mail Merge’ and doing calculations in Excel. They made a soft copy of the Practical Files in the Flip Book and compiled eight practical activities. PHYSICS: “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn” Work-Energy-Power: Through several exercises, students understood the importance of energy in life, their application in real life besides different units of energy. In addition, students discussed ‘Mechanical Energy’ in detail and understood the physical significance of ‘Potential and Kinetic Energy’. By using mathematical examples and real-life situations, students derived an expression for kinetic and potential energy. In addition, students understood and proved the “Law of Conservation of Energy”. With the help of various activities, students understood the physical significance of “power” and its various units and also the commercial unit of power. CHEMISTRY: The chapter, ‘Structure of Atom’ was continued this month also. They learnt the discovery of proton through video tutorials followed by the practice worksheet. The topic ‘Alpha Particle Scattering Experiment’ was introduced with the simulation. They all observed the scattering of alpha particles by the gold foil atoms and understood the conclusions that led to the discovery of the nucleus. New concepts like electronic configuration, calculation of atomic number and number of neutrons were introduced. They also practiced the questions based on the listed concepts. A video on ‘Soil Erosion’ was shared and discussed with them. They made a beautiful poster on the ‘Water Cycle’ integrating SDG -15: Life on Land and its effect on the land. The children were able to assess their learning gaps. Post the mock exams they will be put through more sessions of revision to ensure that their doubts are cleared and prepared up to the mark. Each chapter was discussed thoroughly with important points. An Oral revision was done and an interactive quiz was also conducted on Nearpod. ENGLISH: The month commenced with the introduction of the text ‘The Beggar’ by the Russian writer ‘Anton ‘Chekhov’. The students posed questions about the social issue of poverty and shared their thoughts when they see beggars on the streets. The literature piece allowed them to analyze the character sketch of the protagonist ‘Lushkoff’ and made them think critically about his actions and repercussions. Another interesting text caught their attention as its theme was ‘Challenges Faced by Teenagers’. The students read the chapter ‘A House is Not a Home’ and differentiated a ‘home’ from a ‘house’ through a collage. The topic concluded with a discussion on the challenges faced by teenagers wherein students shared personal anecdotes and solutions. In integrated grammar, students built upon the concept of ‘Determiners’ by first recapitulating the rules, examples and later attempted practice exercises. Students revised all concepts for ‘Mock Examination’, with emphasis on the writing section. They were made to read and understand an article from the textbook about the meaning of ‘Francophonie’. Recapitulation of invitation and letter writing was done. All concepts studied -grammar, civilization and writing skills were revised with worksheets, a workbook for the mock exam. GERMAN: After the winter break, the session commenced Lektion 5 (Ende gut, Alles gut!). The concept of the famous ‘Berlin Zoo’ was introduced through a video, understanding how animals are protected by various animal welfare associations. The students were made to practice reading comprehension from Lektion 5. Also, they were given enough time for the revision of their mock exams. Larson and ‘The War Prayer’ written by Mark Twain. In the class activity, the students were made aware of stage management, how to use props and how to coordinate with other actors. Role playing is a fundamental skill that allows actors to be successful in their roles. Role playing allows an actor to step into the shoes of a character. This may sound easy, but it isn't necessarily a natural process. It's a skill that requires a lot of practice before an actor can do it comfortably and well. Role playing takes place in small groups, where each actor is given a specific character or role to take on for the assigned period. Within the role play - aside from assigning characters such as mother, friend, and classmate - there's also a prescribed situation within which the various characters will interact. The situation provides the boundaries and guides how the characters should behave within the role play. VISUAL ARTS: In their Visual Art lessons, students learnt : Week 1 & 2- Republic Day Composition (Culture & Heritage of India) Students made Republic Day special composition in which they learnt to incorporate the culture & heritage of our country in one composition. Week 3- Poster on ‘Grow More Trees’ Students were made aware of SDG 15: Life on Land. They drew a poster on ‘How we can save life on Earth’ by growing more trees, recycling and restoring our resources, etc. Composition: Creative & freehand Art Technique: Free hand, colouring, outlining Learning Outcome: Development of observatory and motor skills, how the motor skills change when introduced to similar art forms like music. LIFE SKILLS: This is the age when students think about their career and will have to learn money management. Considering this, students were introduced to “Financial Management”. Age-appropriate ways were given to develop financial awareness and skills. Students understood what it means to budget, and identify the reasons to maintain a budget, creating and maintaining personal budget, difference between wants and needs. Ambedkar Suncity School, 37D Gurugram marked the 73rd Republic Day by conducting a special assembly across Grades Pre Nursery - IX with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. The assembly commenced with flag unfurling ceremony in our school grounds. Post that the rest of the assembly was conducted virtually and the reading of the Constitution, knowing the significance of the Preamble, apprising students about the contribution made by Sh. B.R. Ambedkar and facts about the Constitution of India were the high lights of the assembly. The students of Grade V & VI enthralled the audience with their mellifluous patriotic songs. Students of Grade I took pride in the legacy of our freedom fighters, dressed up as them , and reverberated their message by chanting their famous slogans. Keeping the spirit of patriotism alive, Grades VII-VIII students expressed love for their motherland through self created short videos. The assembly concluded with the address of Principal, Ms. Guneet Ohri who emphasised on understanding and implementing the Preamble in its true sense. She urged the students to put their best foot forward and feel proud to be an Indian. They dispersed with the image of the fluttering tricolor in their mind and heart.
